5-Day Bible Reading Plan: Generosity as a Lifestyle

DAY 1 — Generosity Begins with Mindset

Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:9–10, 17–19

Teaching:

Paul reminds us that money itself is not evil, but rather the love of money that twists our hearts away from God. Like Pastor Brandon shared — whether money is good or evil depends on whose hands it is in. We have to remember that money is a tool, not a treasure. Generosity begins when we loosen our grip on finances and reassign money from “our source of security” to “a tool for Kingdom impact.”

Reflect & Respond:

  • Pray: “Money is not my treasure — Jesus is.”

  • Challenge: Write down 10 things you are grateful for. Gratitude weakens the grip of greed in our hearts!

DAY 2 — God Commands Generosity, Not Suggests It

Scripture: Leviticus 19:9–10

Teaching:

God commanded landowners to leave the edges of their fields unharvested so that the poor and outsider could gather. Generosity wasn’t emotional or reactive — it was built into their budget and lifestyle. Like Pastor Brandon shared on Sunday, these “mercy margins” create space in our finances for us to be able to help those in need.

Reflect & Respond:

  • Ask yourself: Where are the “edges” in my finances? Do I intentionally leave margin for generosity?

  • Challenge: Fast from self-spending today — pause impulse spending and notice where your financial “edges” could exist.

DAY 3 — Jesus Redefines Treasure

Scripture: Matthew 19:21 & Matthew 6:19–21

Teaching:

Jesus called the rich young ruler to trade comfort for Kingdom treasure. Generosity is not just about giving money — it’s about reordering what we value. “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Reflect & Respond:

  • Ask honestly: “Is my lifestyle driving my giving, or is my giving driving my lifestyle?”

  • Challenge: Give an unexpected blessing to someone this week — surprise generosity awakens our hearts.

DAY 4 — Live Positioned to Give

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 9:6–11

Teaching:

Paul teaches that generosity should be pre-decided, not random. We don’t wait until the moment to see if we “feel generous” — we structure our lives to be available and ready to give when God prompts.

Reflect & Respond:

  • Consider: Do I budget in a way that leaves me available to give — or do I spend until there’s nothing left? Recall Pastor Brandon’s illustration with the 20 dollar bills. How do we prioritize generosity in our personal finances?

  • Challenge: Declutter and donate — give from what you already have and sow what’s sitting unused.

DAY 5 — Generosity as Worship

Scripture: Acts 2:44–47 & 1 Chronicles 29:14

Teaching:

The early church practiced generosity as worship and community formation. Needs were met, joy increased, and generosity became part of their identity. David said, “Everything we have comes from You…” — a declaration that giving begins with recognizing it all belongs to God anyway.

Reflect & Respond:

  • Pray: “Lord, make me a funnel, not a reservoir. Let resources flow through me, not just to me.”

Choose one challenge today:

  • Give anonymously — when only God sees, it purifies our heart.

  • Partner with the mission — give intentionally toward your church or a Kingdom effort.
