Eternal Beauty, Temporal Struggles
“Allow the eternity in your heart to give you the perspective that this will not last forever.”
Nasreen Jones
When was the moment that you realized that in the midst of hardship, God is still good? That both things can be true at the same time? I knew as a believer, in this world, we will have trouble but as long as they were temporary hurdles that can be bypassed and I can move on with my happy life, it was fine! Last year, my father my diagnosed with dementia and it has been the most challenging thing I have walked through in my life. For the rest of his earthly life, he will be dealing with this and so will I. I lamented a lot. I told God it wasn’t fair and that I didn’t know what to do. I felt like I had a dark cloud following me wherever I went and that it would never go away. God is so kind and allowed me to have my pity party but then He gave me the most beautiful revelation. Even though I was walking through this, He was still there and He was still good. God has shown His love for me through the support of family and community during this time; family members stepping in to help, friends constantly checking in and praying, and connecting me with people that are experiencing the same thing as I am.
In the midst of all of this, God has shown His kindness. I realized that the Christian walk is maintaining faith and hope in trials while also still experiencing God’s goodness. He is always doing something, we just have to allow ourselves to see it. All that to say my sister in Christ, what you are walking through is important to God, He is holding you in His hand, and it is temporary. You are not alone and you never will be. Allow the eternity in your heart to give you the perspective that this will not last forever. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.” We may never know the “why” but we know the One and He promises us that He has overcome the world and He will never leave us forsake us. Take heart, friend! He is with you!
